The idea of the Big EZ Lodge originated as a high-end executive retreat. From the original 160 acres of land, 30 acres were cleared out for this project at the Beaver Creek Subdivision near Big Sky, Montana. The site opens up to the Gallatin Range to the East, with the Porcupine Wilderness across the valley. From the initial program, four buildings were designed and connected by an exterior deck. The Big EZ Lodge is the central component of this complex.

unlimited visual access to the vast landscape surrounding the site. There is a direct access to the connecting deck outside. The exterior decks are designed to be fully integrated into the water and boulder landscape, and are used to connect all the buildings which make up the complex. The deck railing is made up of hand peeled log and wire mesh to allow maximum visibility through it. Flooring on the main level of the Lodge is 2' square slate stone with in-floor radiant heat.

This main lodge comprises 14, 500 square feet on two levels where the common spaces are located on the upper ievel, with meeting rooms and individual Guest Rooms below. Each Guest Room has been named after a state, which is reflected in the interiors of that room. In addition to the emphasis on comfort, each room has been equipped with the lateet telecommunications provisions. Each room has a direct access to the outside to the heated pool or the putting golf course, or just to enjoy the compelling Montana landscapes and vistas. The Lodge reflects the arts and crafts tradition while collaborating with a rustic simplicity in material and details which include custom wainscoting and wrought iron ornament.

The rotunda at the foyer is constructed with hand peeled log with a plaster ring above. This ring has an original mural depicting the cycle of life. From there one enters the Great Room with a massive glacial river rock fireplace. A vaulted ceiling is supported by log and wrought iron trusses. The back of the Lodge is primarily glass to allow

Adjacent to the Great Room is the Dining Hall a fully equipped commercial kitchen supports gourmet dining in the private dining area with a fireplace. Attached to the Main Lodge is a screened-in porch with an outdoor fieplace that provides a bug-free dining experience. To either side of the Great Room is another fireplace. The Master Residence, adjacent to the Lodge, is designed to give the owners some modicum of privacy and separation from guests, while still remaining close in for entertaining.

AlI the buildings are finished with hand-peeled half-log siding and glacial river rock, and have standing seam metal roofs. Rock is carried throughout the entire design including all the fireplaces.
